This year's MOPS theme is "Momology - The Art and Science of Mothering." If you're anything like me, you're thinking - "I left my school days behind me!" But did you really?
Motherhood is a continuous school of both art and science. Who, but a mother can come up with a rainy day activity with just a roll of masking tape and a cardboard box? Who, but a mother, will conduct research about the latest and greatest parenting solution for teething, diaper rash, or colic? Who, but a mother, can whip up a batch of fruity-scented playdoh without batting an eyelash? And who, but a mother, can create a gourmet meal out of 3-day old leftovers and a can of green beans?
But as you know, it's no fun to create and hypothesize alone. Even the great artists and scientists had partners - DaVinci had the Mona Lisa and Alexander Graham Bell had Thomas Watson. As you look around your table, you will have the opportunity to form partnerships with other Mom Artists and Mom Scientists. But not only do we have each other - we also have one other partner in common - God.
God knows if you are an Artist or a Scientist. He knows each and every one of your strengths and weaknesses because He created you that way. And as we go through this new MOPS year together, God will also be there - guiding us, holding us, loving us every step of the way.
It is my prayer for our new MOPS year that each of you inspire and encourage the mom sitting next to you to stretch, grow and embrace her inner artist or inner scientist. It is also my prayer that, when you feel there is no one else that understands, you feel the hand of your Heavenly Father holding you close and guiding you to Him.
