Service Project - Project Glean

Mark your calendars for our Fall service project on October 16, 2010

We will be participating in Project Glean. Farmers have donated part of their land for us to pick their produce. The produce that we are able to take off the fields is significant in feeding those less fortunate in our community.  There is no age limit, so this would be a great time to bring your children and get them involved with serving in the community!

We will meet at CCC at 6:45am and carpool to the warehouse and then on to the fields.  You should expect to drive anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes once you leave COMPA's warehouse facility to arrive at the field.

COMPA staff direct the gleaning activity, with volunteers harvesting produce from the fields and loading the trucks. Because of the weather and field conditions, volunteers are encouraged to bring the following:
  • Water
  • Mosquito/insect repellant
  • Snacks/Lunch
  • Sunscreen
  • Gloves, long pants, hat, sunglasses, appropriate footwear
Please keep in mind that restrooms may or may not be available, depending on the field. Actual work may involve anything from picking vegetables right off the plant to cutting cabbage heads off the stalk to carrying and loading up to 50 pound boxes on the trailer.

Please remember: You will be working outdoors in a farming field.  Plan accordingly.
